The moment you first feel yourself getting a 'bug', this is when immune enhancing strategies are most effective.
Your Natural Health Village suggests the following Free or Low-Cost strategies to strengthen and enhance your immune system:
1. Vitamin D- It is one of the best strategies for avoiding infections of all kinds.
Dr. Joseph Mercola believes Vitamin D deficiency is the true culprit behind the seasonability of the flu and not the flu virus itself."
Vitamin D is an amazingly effective antimicrobial (anti-bacterial). We recommend a Vitamin D supplement and, of course, exposure to at least 15 minutes of sunshine a day.
2. Frequent Hand-Washing- Use soap that is NOT anti-bacterial. This is important because the anti-bacteria soaps kill the good bacteria that we need.
Wash your hands as long as it takes to sing Happy Birthday to yourself.
3. Probiotics-Probiotics are referred to as 'friendly' bacteria and are responsible for assisting with digestion and and limiting other harmful bacteria.
Scientific evidence shows that 80% of your immune system resides in your digestive tract.
The natural probiotic that we recommend is kefir, a probiotic beverage, which can be found in most health food sections of your grocery store or make your own. We also recommend PB8 or acidophilus as a supplement.
4. Eliminate or decrease sugar! Sugar weakens your immune system. Eat less acid-producing foods including dairy, meat, and processed foods.
5. Sleep more! You will jump start your body's own natural defenses. It feels good, too.
6. Exercise more! It helps decrease stress and aids in lymphatic clean-up (your body's own trash removers).

7. Meditate- Take time for yourself to further decrease stress. Be light-hearted. Smile Often, it is the nectar of life.

8. Drink, drink, and drink plenty of water. Squeezing a lemon into your water is a big boost!
9. "Cold Eez" This is the brand name zinc throat lozenger that works really well when used immediately upon noticing symptoms.
10. Colloidal Silver is a liquid suspension of microscopic silver particles and it can be taken every day and, of course, increased when you want to boost your immune system.
