Bottled Water - Where Does It Come From?
Is it purified? How? Is the water tested for contaminants?
Three big, basic questions that often are not asked by consumers and definitely not answered by companies.Environmental Working Group(EWG) is a non-profit organization that uses the power of public information to protect public health and the environment and was founded in 1993. The EWG states that they found that only 2 of 188 bottled water brands provide the 3 most basic facts about their water: source name and location, treatment and purity. The fact is that secrecy remains common in the bottled water industry and is perfectly legal in many states. In the United States, we spend $21 billion a year in buying bottled water and we spend $29 billion a year maintaining the entire water system--pipes, treatment plants and pumps. So we spend almost as much on crushable plastic bottles as we do maintaining our water systems. Questions like, Where did the water on Earth come from? Or, Is water still being created or added somehow?
Please check out your brand of bottled water to find out: where does the water come from, is it purified, and how? Also, have tests found any contaminants? EWG suggests you drink filtered tap water. You will save money, drink water that is purer than tap water and help solve the global glut of plastic bottles. Please check out Environmental Working Groups's website below.
